Africa-Press – Botswana. The church is an important stakeholder in nation building as it molds human behaviour and character to build strong families and communities.

Speaking during the Salvation for Christ International Church’s Relationship Reconciliation Seminar at Gabane on Saturday, Minister of Defence and Security Mr Kagiso Mmusi commended the church for its efforts in bringing peace and love to the nation.

Minister Mmusi, also a Member of Parliament for Gabane/Mmankgodi said the seminar came at a time when the nation was grappling with gender-based violence, rape, murder, drugs and alcohol abuse, which continue to destroy and take young people lives.

He therefore applauded the church for its efforts in bringing people together and reconciling them.

Mr Mmusi said he believed reconciliation of relationship was pivotal, especially when spearheaded by the church.

He encourage parents to bring their children to church instead of leaving them at home on Sunday, saying they stood to benefit more by coming to church than sleeping.

Meanwhile Minister Mmusi encouraged church members to register so that they could take part in the coming general elections to vote leaders of their choice.

Founder of Salvation for Christ International Church Apostle Thuso Samumzala said failure to attend to relationships challenges always led to unhappy endings.

He said failure by families to solve their differences in their relationships did not only affect adults but also their children and the community they lived in.

Apostle Samumzala said the church therefore saw the need to address such important issue which many a times was left unattended.

He added that the church was determined to play its role in the community by reaching out to the youth and helping them through Apostle Teachers and Students tutoring initiative, which had so far borne fruit.

When giving an overview of the seminar and objectives Pastor Reuben Majeremane said the event was the first of its kind hosted by the church, and that the intention was to make it an annual event.

“Today, we are launching an in-house ministry of relationship reconciliation. Relationships are like the threads that weave the fabric of our lives. They come in many forms, the connection between parents and children, the bond between lovers and the ties among siblings”.

Pastor Majeremane said like any other fabric, the threads could sometimes become frayed, worn out or even torn and the pains and ills associated with failed relationships were overwhelming and could translate to societal ills bedevilling the communities.

He said the objectives of the seminar were to deepen understanding of the dynamics at play in a relationship by recognising the unique challenges each type of relationship presents.

Pastor Majeremane said they intended to promote communication skills and foster openness, honesty and empathy in relationship interactions.

He said the seminar would administer spiritual and emotional healing from past conflicts relationships and or family misunderstandings.

Mr Joshua Thebolo from Gaborone University of Law said they had partnered with the church to build responsible citizens and had offered 50 per cent sponsorships to church members in an effort to encourage parents to help their children pursue further studies.
