FRANCISTOWN HRDC CAREER FAIR STARTS TODAY

Africa-Press – Botswana. Over 1 000 learners are expected to gather at the Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) for this year’s Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) career fair .

HRDC chief executive officer, Professor Alinah Segobye told a press conference yesterday that the three-day career fair would equip learners with comprehensive information about potential career paths and provide them with career counselling so that they would be able to make informed decisions about tertiary education and future careers.

Prof. Segobye revealed that in this year’s career fair, HRDC had introduced new programmes, including indigenous skills workshops, offering young people the opportunity to learn from practitioners in the creative industries.

“This is important to nurture talent in creative fields to support both emerging and established tourism businesses,” she said.

Again, she said the career fair was helpful because it guided high school graduates through the process of selecting the right institution for tertiary education

“In addition, the fair features a makeathon aimed at cultivating skills in aerotech, robotics, engineering, and technology-driven skills for the 4th Industrial Revolution,” she added.

Prof. Segobye emphasised the importance of such skills in Botswana’s economic development as the country strived to achieve higher income status.

She said the career fair would facilitate interactions between learners and mentors, enabling young individuals to receive guidance and support in making informed career choices.

She also said the event further endeavoured to bridge the gap between Botswana’s education system and the evolving demands of the labour market.

“It aims to align training programmes with the dynamic needs of the workforce,” she said.

Meanwhile, the second fair would be held in Gaborone from March 19 to 22 and admission is free for all students and members of the public.
