Africa-Press – Botswana. Women were pillars of families hence the need to be honoured and celebrated.
This was said by the Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti, at Mmathethe in his Mmathethe/Molapowabojang constituency during the International Women’s Day celebration on Sunday.
Dr Dikoloti, who in collaboration with Leading Age Foundation and MediPlus Global Doctors, pampered Mmathethe women with different health services and gifts, highlighted the need for women to always be of good health because families relied on them for all aspects of life.
He said government strived to improve communities while other stakeholders also had to assist as witnessed on the day by a collaboration with non-governmental organisations to improve the health of Mmathethe women.
He urged women to embrace mindset change and continue doing good in communities, adding that they could succeed in everything they put their minds on.
Ms Kelebogile Mathiba, the wife to Kgosi Thabo Mathiba, said women were celebrated as they build good homes, hence great communities.
Ms Mathiba said women faced challenges but such made them strong and therefore urged them to continue doing good in the community.
Leading Age Foundation chairperson, Mr Percy Moroka, said they saw it fit to collaborate with the Minister of Health and pamper women on their day, something he said was part of their mandate to take health services closer to the elderly.
He said the elderly usually had pains, hence they brought services such as back and foot massages.
Mr Moraka said women were the backbone of families and it was right for them to be pampered on their day.
He said for them to successfully deliver on their mandate, they needed assistance from the business community.
MediPlus Global Doctors director, Mr Fungayi Mukosera said they decided to work with Leading Age Foundation because their objectives blended well with theirs.
He said their aim was to improve the health of the elderly, hence they spent the day with them, providing different services and gifts.
Mr Mompoloki Phale, nurse at Magoriapitse Health Post, advised women to take good care of their health, highlighting the need to eat healthy food to reduce the chances of developing non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
He thanked Dr Dikoloti for collaborating with other organisations to improve the health of constituents.
On the day, 100 eye glasses, 150 leg pillows as well as health shoes and massaging mats were donated.
