Africa-Press – Botswana. As the 2024/25 financial year commences, public officers have urged to ensure the smooth implementation of projects.
Speaking at a gathering of department heads in Letlhakane, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, Member of Parliament for Boteti East and also Assistant Minister of Health, emphasised the crucial role of public officers in driving President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s initiatives.
He said the funds would be released this week, and urged prompt project commencement, stressing the need for officers to facilitate rather than obstruct progress.
He highlighted the importance of efficient procurement practices with standard operating procedures and timely delivery of Constituency Community Projects.
Emphasising adherence to service standards, Mr Lelatisitswe underscored the significance of utilising allocated funds to foster development opportunities.
Referencing the appropriation bill passed by Parliament, Mr Lelatisitswe expressed concern over some officers who still report to Central district instead of Boteti, emphasising the decentralization objective to mitigate project delays.
He invoked a sense of community responsibility, urging officers to support the public as they would their own parents.
Providing an update on developmental undertakings in Boteti East, Ms Patience Fanikiso, the senior district development officer, reported progress on various projects.
She said the he works contract for the police station and staff housing in Letlhakane was ahead of schedule at 72 per cent completion against the planned 62 per cent, set for August 2024.
Similarly, Ms Fanakiso said construction progress on the new primary school and staff housing in Letlhakane village stood at 53 per cent compared to the anticipated 68 per cent, with completion scheduled for November 2024.
According to Fanakiso, upcoming projects under the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP), following a development manager model, included the design and construction of internal roads, stormwater drainage, and solar street lighting in Letlhakane.
Additionally, she said plans encompassed the expansion of Motsumi Junior Secondary School, a new secondary school, Letlhakane District Hospital, and staff residences.
Further TNDP initiatives also include constructing and upgrading health facilities in Mokubilo and Makgaba, including maternity wings.
The blueprint also includes establishing a legal aid center in Letlhakane, underscoring the comprehensive development strategy for the region.
