Speaking during commemoration of the African Child Day in Gaborone on Friday Ms Mabote said policies, structures and systems have been put in place to ensure that children accessed equitable quality education as per the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4).
She said there were schools spread across the country and more were being built to reduce overcrowding and cut travel distances to school.
Ms Mabote said Botswana was privileged to be one of the few countries in the world that still offered free education and sponsorship all the way from grassroots pre- primary to university.
She therefore urged all to take advantage while the opportunity continued.
Ms Mabote said the day celebrated under the theme; ‘education for all African children; The time is now,’ was relevant as it supported knowledge based economy that Botswana was pursuing.

“It is important to educate children about the value of education and its role in improving their livelihoods,” said Ms Mabote.
Meanwhile she said Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP) had highlighted the strengthening of early childhood education and learner profiling to ensure that all learners were fully provided for uniquely.
To learners, Ms Mabote reminded them that they were the architects and change makers and were key to bringing the aspirations of Botswana into reality by 2036 in accordance with the national vision.
