'Youth Catalyst for Positive Change

Africa-Press – Botswana. Youth are the catalyst in positive transformation at both societal and national levels.

This was said by Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr Baratiwa Mathoothe during Tshimoyapula Youth Pitso on Tuesday.

Mr Mathoothe, also Member of Parliament for Serowe North, reminded the youth that they were the building blocks of the nation, and for national prosperity to flourish, they must occupy key positions that would drive economic development.

He said youth needed support as the phase they were in was crucial for exploring their true selves, marked by the desire for fantasy and the freedom to pursue their beliefs without due diligence.

The assistant minister also called on the community to collaborate with the youth and empower them, as they were the leaders of today and tomorrow.

He said through active engagement, permanent solutions could be achieved.

He further said youth should voice their concerns and communicate how the leadership could support them.

Additionally, he commended Tshimoyapula community for being the first village in the district to implement the Sustainable Livelihood Approach, a community development model, which empowered communities to examine the underlying causes of poverty and identify ways to tackle their issues to uplift their livelihoods.

For her part, Senior Community Development Officer, Ms Godiramang Mpapho-Kgano, praised the community for registering the Tshimoyapula Conservation Trust.

She said by establishing a Trust, Tshimoyapula had solidified its identity and confidence in participating in the nation’s vision pillars of prosperity for all and sustainable economic development.

Furthermore, she highlighted that the youth had demonstrated significant interest in participating in efforts to accelerate the village’s economy and seize the myriad business opportunities available to them.

She lauded the youth for their eagerness to learn and grow from the Pitso, mentioning that they had been trained in designing sustainable business plans.

She reiterated the assistant minister’s message that Tshimoyapula could reach greater heights through unity.

The Pitso themed; Youth: Catalyst for Positive Change, also featured a talk show led by the youth and stalls showcasing youth-run businesses, services and products.
