Africa-Press – Botswana. Thirty-two teachers from Kweneng region were last week drilled on Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect (OVEP) to ensure continuity of the Olympic spirit to the next generations

The weeklong training christened the OVEP Kweneng Train the Trainer Programme was conducted by the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC). When giving the training overview on Friday, OVEP Chief Facilitator, Oreeditse Marakakgoro commended the trainees for enthusiasm, which she said, was demonstrated by their participation.

“We had a wonderful, impactful week with these amazing people. They were eager to learn. They came here showing interest and the desire to be trained because the social ills are there in our schools and within our communities. As a team we are ready to conquer the world,” Marakakgoro said.

Marakakgoro also appreciated the senior education officers such as the principal education officers and directors for having been within their midst to be able to understand what the programme entailed.

This, she noted, was going to give the senior officers an opportunity to monitor the programme well because they understood what graduates were trained to do. Marakakgoro expressed confidence that the graduates would impact the lives of learners in the region, which would in turn yield good results and good behaviour.

For her part the BNOC acting CEO, Baboni Kupe said the graduates were beacons of positive change and she encouraged them to go out, practice and share what had been preached to them to impact the children and parents.

“We are here today to celebrate knowledge that you been given in past week, the skills that you have developed and the shared commitment that you all shown towards advancing Olympic values within our community,” said Kupe.

She appreciated and encouraged all stakeholders and sponsors to continue championing the spirit of Olympic in Botswana through sports as well as education.

Kupe said the Kweneng District deserved an honour for allowing the training to be hosted in the region, adding that it was important to ensure that Olympic values go along with the education in Botswana.
