Africa-Press – Botswana. Timely and effective response to employees’ grievances is vital in the workplace.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for State President, Ms Goitsemang Morekisi said this recently in Selebi Phikwe during a three-day annual retreat for the ministry’s senior officials.

Her call to swift action, underscored the importance of listening to employee grievances and addressing them promptly and equitably, saying this would help to foster a harmonious workplace environment grounded in transparency and open communication.

Ms Morekisi also said prompt and timely resolutions towards employee grievances would not only enhance workplace morale, but was also pivotal for driving the departmental and ministerial success. She said there was need for visionary, decisive and impartial leadership when resolving grievances, and to consider some of the implications employees undergo during their grievances.

She said leadership should not be about resolving grievances as they arise; but creating trust, transparency, and an environment where employees feel safe even after voicing their grievances. “A thriving workplace is built on foundation of understanding and addressing employee grievances, timely response can also enhance morale productivity and innovation.” she stated that negligence of employee grievances had detrimental effects that negatively affected departments and the ministry.

Ms Morekisi further encouraged the need for a proactive mind set in navigating the fiscal challenges in different work entities, urging leadership to adopt innovative strategies that would support departmental efficacy and enhance public service.She also emphasised the need to embrace digitalisation, saying it had become crucial in today’s paced, technology-driven world. She added that it was also a means to enhance effective and efficiency in service delivery.
