Africa-Press – Botswana. Members of the African Born Full Gospel Apostolic Church (ABFGAC) convened for a two day Conference in Molepolole where they deliberated on the meaning of Christianity in their lives.
According to the church leadership, they saw the need to discuss the issue given the environment which has changed over the years, challenging Christians to know themselves and their role in the ever evolving world.
Archbishop Prophet, Dr Gaselarona Sikwa, from African Miracle Church said the theme ‘Who am I in Church’ was relevant for Christians need to know their identity.
He said it was important to note that in the quest of finding their identity, they should know that God was always with them, as God had answered Moses.
Archbishop Sikwa appealed to the Christians not to ever forget the strength of prayer, saying nowadays churches were experiencing challenges as people took their matters elsewhere like social media instead of the church.
“Please refrain from using social media statuses to address your grievances but use appropriate channels established in the church,” he said adding that social media will never provide answers or solutions.
Dr Sikwa said respect within the church, builds an ideal organisation. “Our true identity is found in the presence, purpose and promises of God,” he said.
Dr Sikwa said how one behaved defined who the person was before God.
“Your wisdom, your legacy. prayer, unwavering faith, these are pillars that uphold our ministry,” he said when talking to the church elders.
Archbishop Dr Sikwa said it was imperative that church elders left a legacy upon which the youths would continue with their Christian journey.
“It is time to rediscover ourselves, not through the mirror or culture but through God’s truth,” he said adding further that identity was not self-made but God given.
He reminded them to always abide by God saying the more they knew about Jesus, the more they would know who they were.
Meanwhile Professor Lebo Rathedi from In Christ Bible Institute said there was no way Christians could know themselves without knowing God.
She urged members to continue reading the Bible as it had all the answers to who they were and how they have to behave as Christians.
Prof. Rathedi urged them to emulate Jesus who said “I and my Father are One, the Son can only do what the Father does.”
This, she said, was important as Jesus peached love and therefore, one who has love could not go against the will of God.
“As long as you’re in Christ, you identify with him,” she said.
The ABFGAC Congress, headquartered in Ratholo, attracted members from different congregations.
