Africa-Press – Botswana. The Minister of Health, Dr Stephen Modise is in United Kingdom (UK) to attend a conference on Malaria elimination. alongside King Charles III, who is an avid advocate for Malaria Elimination.
A press statement from the Ministry of Health says the conference comes at a time when Botswana is emerging from a Malaria outbreak, which has affected the Okavango and North West Districts.
The conference will among others, discuss funding towards elimination of Malaria, especially in the African continent.
President Advocate Duma Boko, is the chairperson of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance.
Also, Dr Modise will also attend the World Health Assembly (WHA) that will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from May 19 to 27, which is strategic governance meeting for global Ministers of Health. “Minister Modise will engage likeminded countries and development partners on the sidelines of the WHA, on possible collaborations on issues relating to public health, especially those that can help Botswana achieve Universal Health Coverage as envisaged by the government,” says the release.
Dr Modise is expected back in office on May 30 and during his absence, the Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Lawrence Ookeditse will hold fort.
