Africa-Press – Botswana. Jwaneng Galaxy FC has been crowned the champions of the 2024/25 Jwaneng Mine Southern Region Women’s Football League.

This victory means Galaxy will represent the region at the upcoming DTCB Southern Block Playoffs, set to take place on May 24-25 in Gaborone. The specific fixtures for the playoffs are expected to be announced later this week.

In a decisive match at the Baitirile grounds, Galaxy dominated third-placed Maletamotse FC with a convincing 4-0 victory to clinch the title.

Both teams ended the season with 46 points, but Galaxy secured the championship with a significantly superior goal difference of approximately 68 goals.

Galaxy’s Assistant Coach, Tshepiso Bajammewa, outlined their strategic approach going into the match, noting that their opponents typically employed a low-block defense.

To counter this, they focused on high balls, which proved challenging for Maletamotse to handle. The first goal came from an own goal during a corner kick in the 37th minute.

In the 50th minute, Masego Mokgatlhe extended the lead by converting a free kick after a foul. Oratile Kolobe capitalized on a defensive error by Maletamotse in the 66th minute to score the third goal.

Masego then capped off the scoring with a long-range strike in the 80th minute, solidifying Galaxy’s league victory.

As champions, Galaxy received a cash prize of P15,000. The statistics from the season highlight the competitive nature of the league, where both teams fought hard for the title. However, only one team could emerge victorious.

Two-time defending champions Zodiac Collabo Girls FC finished in second place this season after winning their final match against Kanye Swallows 2-0 at Mathaithai grounds.
