Africa-Press – Botswana. Police VI men’s volleyball team was on Saturday crowned the Botswana Volleyball Federation National League 2024/2025 champions.

This follows their 3-2 win against BDF VI in a thrilling encounter that was played at SSKB courts in Mogoditshane on Saturday.

The game was played before a cheerful crowd of spectators who have jam-packed the courts yard and the stands to the brim.

Ditau alias Police VI, who have had a successful season, managed to get maximum points whereas BDF VI, who have been their all-time toughest opponents finished as runners up.

Police VI assistant coach Happy Ribbin said claiming the title was a dream come true.

Ribbin, who did not hide his optimism prior this fixture, said his outfit was divinely called to lift the trophy this season.

He said their secret lied on the fact that they weighed each and every encounter with the same magnitude hence they played all games at a top gear.

For his part the Assistant Coach for BDF VI Disang Golekanye said initially their target was to be title holders but finishing at second spot was also something that they were exultant about.

He said his team had a good first round of the season and the last lap of the season was abounded with hurdles.

Golekanye said several postponements of fixtures due to torrents earlier this year affected the performance of his team.

He opined that it was high time the league had interior courts that could be used during times of bad weather conditions to avoid setting back their efforts preparing for the games.

Mag Stimela returned to their club house with some bronze medals to end the season.

In other men’s fixtures that summed up the season, Spiking Stars VC thrashed Kutlwano VC 3-1 whilst Itekeng had a nightmarish end of the season as they were whipped twice in a row, losing 3-2 to Kalavango and a 3-0 loss to Prisons.

Meanwhile BDF VI ladies crushed the Police VI 3-1 to win the women’s title.

BDF VI ladies head coach, Daniel Baoki said the victory was not a surprise as his team had worked hard for this golden moment. “One should note that in a duo of Zone Six competitions in a row we finished at the quarter final stages, a phenomenon that was not impressive. This season I hit myself in the chest and swore that we need to do something. We agreed as a team that we are going to come out of today’s game victorious. We understood Police VI’s weaknesses well and our service worked for us,” said Baoki.

Baoki said the victory signified a growth to his team and was aware that their triumph had intrigued more rivalries for the future competitions.

On the silver medalist side, the Head Coach for Police VI, Shimaka Ngwanaotsile accepted that his team did not play according to the game plan.

“We had a good start until in the third set when my team started losing balls. Our reception was inconsistent. We kept on going back and forth. We made many errors and that cost us,” said Ngwanaotsile.

He revealed that they were faced with a challenge where players rarely attended practice due to various commitment, which hampered his efforts to build a strong team.

Mafolofolo VC ladies bagged home bronze medals.

In other ladies’ league games that were played earlier during the day, Dikwena VC beat Dynamites 3-0 but later on Sebokeng flogged Dikwena 3-0.

Third placed Spiking Stars ruined the struggling Sebokeng’s day by hammering them 3-0.
