Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) has intensified regional support by delivering an emergency shipment of Foot-and-Mouth (FMD) vaccines to South Africa, in response to a major outbreak currently threatening the country’s livestock sector.
A press release from BVI states that as a key player,in veterinary vaccine production within sub-Saharan Africa, the institute’s intervention is pivotal in curbing the spread of FMD across the region. The statement further says in addition to supplying vaccines, BVI provides comprehensive support, including pre and post-vaccination monitoring, disease surveillance and technical assistance to ensure effective disease control.
“We are committed to assisting our country and neighbouring countries in managing and eradicating FMD. Our expertise and resources are at their disposal to safeguard the livestock industry, which is critical to the livelihoods of many across Africa,” said BVI’s CEO Mr Andrew Madeswi.
The release further says BVI remains dedicated to promoting regional livestock health and economic resilience through rapid vaccine deployment, continuous surveillance and collaborative technical expertise.
