Africa-Press – Botswana. The Motokwe Integrated Show, which attracted farmers across Letlhakeng District is aiming to restore the prominence of agriculture and re-establish it as a vital economic foundation.

Organised by the community of Letlhakeng District in partnership with the district’s department of animal production, the show, which started yesterday is themed: Agribusiness and Agro-Tourism: Uplifting Farmers and Communities. The event is expected to be officially opened by acting Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr Edwin Dikoloti, on Saturday.

Mr Jacob Kelebeng, the Minister of Sport and Arts and the area Member of Parliament, is expected to deliver the keynote address.

In an interview, Mr Timon Kelebeng, chairperson of the Letlhakeng District Farmers’ executive committee, said an auction sale was planned for today in afternoon. On Saturday, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a horse race featuring horses from various regions of the country.

Mr Kelebeng said the event included business components and promotion of horse tourism through horse racing activities, noting that such races could also be therapeutic.

Further, he said farmers would utilise the event as a platform for benchmarking and mutual learning, as well as for networking.

Representatives from the Motokwe Farmers Association, I 11 Farmers Association, Takatokwane Farmers Group, Maboane Farmers Society, Tshephe Farmers Association, and the Kweneng Beef Farmers Association are taking part in the show.
