Health Facilities Assessment Ongoing

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs has started assessing all health care facilities to improve service delivery, including the potential upgrading of some health posts.

The minister, Mr Ketlhalefile Motshegwa told Parliament that the process started on April 1 when the ministry assumed responsibility for Primary Health Care Services. Mr Motshegwa, however, said it was not feasible to upgrade all 350 of them to clinics at the same time. He noted that like most health posts nationwide, Siviya Health Post operated from a three-roomed structure for all health care services. In addition, he said there was a separate two-roomed building, where one room was used for Child Welfare Clinic, while the other one was used as an observation room. He said Siviya Health Post would be considered for upgrading alongside other health posts in future development plans, subject to availability of funds. Tati East MP, Mr Tlhabologo Furniture had asked about the status of Siviya Health Post and if there were any intentions to upgrade it to a clinic since the population size allowed for that dispensation.
