DCEC Probes Politicians from Past and Present Administrations

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) is investigating nine politicians from both previous and current administrations, according to Director General Botlhale Makgekgenene. The investigations cover the period under former President Mokgweetsi Masisi and the first eight months of President Duma Boko’s tenure.

Director General Makgekgenene revealed that since her last briefing to the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC), the number of high-profile cases involving politicians has increased from seven to nine. These cases involve allegations of corruption and economic crimes that fall under the DCEC’s mandate to ensure accountability and integrity in public office.

The investigations reflect the DCEC’s continued focus on transparency and anti-corruption efforts. By targeting both former and current political figures, the directorate aims to reinforce public confidence in Botswana’s governance and rule of law.

Makgekgenene emphasized that all cases are being handled according to due process. The investigations are ongoing, and findings will guide further action to hold accountable those involved in corrupt practices.

The increase in high-profile cases signals a strengthened approach to monitoring political conduct and protecting the nation’s economic and institutional integrity.
