Peter Kesitilwe Becomes First CEO of African Igaming Alliance

Africa-Press – Botswana. The African iGaming Alliance (AIA) has named Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe as its first Chief Executive Officer. Announced on September 8, 2025, the appointment marks a significant step for the alliance, which was established earlier this year by leading operators betPawa, Betway, 888Africa and Sportybet to address the growing complexities of online gaming regulation in Africa.

Kesitilwe, a seasoned professional with more than two decades of leadership experience in state-owned enterprises and the private sector, brings extensive regulatory expertise to the role. As the former CEO of the Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA), he oversaw key reforms to the country’s Betting Act, enhancing consumer protections and operational standards in the gambling industry.

In the coming months, under Kesitilwe’s guidance, the AIA plans to establish a Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) in partnership with regional gaming advisory bodies to advance its goals and ensure coordinated, future-ready development of the industry.

Kesitilwe said: “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the AIA’s first CEO. I look forward to working with regulators and policymakers to build a vibrant, sustainable and competitive industry that upholds the highest standards of responsible gambling and consumer protection.”

Board members from the founding operators have also expressed strong support for the appointment, highlighting Kesitilwe’s potential to elevate industry standards. Anthony Prissman, Managing Director of Betway Africa, noted: “Peter’s strong regulatory background and leadership experience bring immediate credibility to the AIA. We are excited to work with him to help shape a responsible industry across the continent.”

Dan Thomson of betPawa added: “Peter’s appointment reflects the strength of the AIA and our mission to build a vibrant, well-regulated sector throughout Africa.”

Gregory Parsons from Sportybet remarked: “The AIA was created to support balanced regulation and raise standards for responsible gambling. Peter’s leadership marks the beginning of this journey.”

By prioritising sustainability and fairness, the AIA, under Kesitilwe, is positioned to influence policy dialogues across Africa, fostering an environment that supports innovation and protects consumers in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital entertainment sectors.
