Africa-Press – Botswana. The Botswana Minister of Minerals and Energy, Honourable Bogolo Kenewendo, met with her Angolan counterpart, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Honourable Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, on Friday morning to explore new areas of collaboration between the two countries. The meeting focused on advancing joint efforts in the minerals and energy sectors, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to deeper regional cooperation.

Botswana and Angola are already partners in several initiatives, including the Luanda Accord. This agreement brings together African diamond-producing countries and key industry players to collectively fund and promote the marketing of natural diamonds. The accord aims to strengthen Africa’s voice in the global diamond trade, ensuring that producing nations derive greater value and visibility from their resources.

The two countries are also engaged in ongoing talks that are expected to enhance cooperation in energy development. As global demand for clean and sustainable energy grows, both governments see the partnership as an opportunity to leverage their respective strengths and resources. Botswana’s experience in diamond mining and policy reform, combined with Angola’s vast petroleum and gas reserves, provides a strong foundation for mutual growth.

When welcoming Minister Azevedo and his delegation, Minister Kenewendo reaffirmed Botswana’s commitment to the partnership and stressed the importance of regular consultations. She noted that consistent engagement ensures measurable progress and shared accountability in delivering results across projects.

The discussions covered a range of potential collaborations for mutual benefit. These included sharing expertise in mineral exploration and beneficiation, joint development of oil and gas projects, and cooperation on the Lubito Corridor project—a key rail and transport infrastructure initiative designed to boost regional trade and logistics. Both ministers also explored opportunities to develop local manufacturing industries focused on renewable energy technologies, such as solar components and battery systems, which align with Africa’s transition toward clean energy.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about the future of Botswana–Angola relations. Strengthened cooperation in minerals and energy is expected to create jobs, attract investment, and promote sustainable development across the region. The partnership reflects a broader African agenda of collaboration, industrialization, and responsible resource management.
