Africa-Press – Botswana. Children are the most powerful voices shaping the future. This was said by President Advocate Duma Boko during the 2025 Sub-Regional World Children’s Day commemoration in Gaborone on November 15.

As such, he said in Botswana children’s needs were central to national development.

He noted key progress such as the establishment of the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, the domestication of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child through the Children’s Act of 2009, and continuous reviews of child protection systems.

He also reported advancements in digitalisation, including provision of devices to all senior secondary teachers and learners with specialised ICT tools for children with disabilities although reliable high-speed internet remained a challenge.

Botswana is further strengthening cybersecurity measures to protect children online, he said.

Marking World Children’s Day, he said this year’s theme: My Day, My Rights-From Promises to Action, was a call for governments, communities and global leaders to move beyond words and deliver real change.
