Africa-Press – Botswana. Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) Managing Director, Mmetla Masire, has been dismissed.

Information indicates that ODC staff were briefed this morning about the board’s decision to relieve Masire of his duties. He is expected to vacate office at the end of the month.

No reasons have yet been provided for the decision.

When contacted for comment, ODC Public Relations Officer Dennis Tlaang requested an hour to prepare an official response.

Masire himself confirmed the development in a brief interview, stating that while he was aware the news had reached staff, official communication would be released through proper channels.

“I can confirm, like you say, that staff were briefed this morning after a board decision. But the official communication, like I said, will come through the right channel, which is the public relations office,” he said.

Pressed for further clarity, Masire maintained that all enquiries should be directed to the company’s communications office.

Masire took up the position in July 2021 and is a diamond industry veteran. Prior to his appointment, he was the permanent secretary in the Minerals ministry. Masire was also CEO of the Water Utilities Corporation at one point in his career.
