Africa-Press – Botswana. The Minister of Higher Education, Honourable Prince Maele, praised the Regional Universities Forum for its focus on policy action that links Africa and Asia. The Forum highlighted higher agricultural education, science and technology. It also addressed gender, diversity and inclusion challenges that affect refugees, displaced persons and persons with disabilities.

In his keynote address, the Minister said he expects global universities to become mission driven. He urged them to make direct contributions to national and regional economies. He encouraged institutions to generate science solutions that lead to real products and services. He also called on them to align their work with development priorities in their regions.

He noted that the annual general meeting fits the government’s renewed mandate to place the higher education sector at the center. He said innovation and technical capability are critical for national growth. He added that the Forum creates a strong platform for progress in these areas.

The event attracted more than 600 delegates from different countries. Their goal is to build strategic partnerships and boost youth access to green and digital skills for the future of Agrifood Systems. The discussions focus on practical steps that can help young people secure opportunities in a fast changing global economy.

Minister Maele said he values the Forum’s commitment to strengthening the knowledge base of the region. He encouraged continued collaboration in research, innovation and capacity development. He noted that shared action can drive stronger science led development across Africa.
