The Minister of Higher Education, Honourable Prince Maele, officially opened the 21st Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) annual general meeting at the Gaborone International Conference Centre. The event was held under the theme, “Positioning Africa’s Universities and the Higher Education Sector to effectively impact development processes on the continent.”
Minister Maele emphasized that the theme highlights the role of innovation in higher education. He noted that universities can drive societal resilience, which is essential for achieving economic development across Africa.
He described the forum as a symbol of strong collaboration between governments, universities, the private sector, industry leaders, and education and training providers. Minister Maele stressed that each stakeholder plays a critical role in the education and training ecosystem, which shapes the future of nations.
The Minister encouraged attendees to deepen and expand transformative partnerships. He urged them to establish lasting relationships that benefit multiple countries. He added that through shared commitment, Africa can unlock the potential of its people, empowering them to build resilient nations driven by innovation.
The annual RUFORUM meeting brings together leaders and experts to discuss strategies for strengthening higher education, promoting research, and advancing innovation in agriculture and related sectors.
