Africa-Press – Botswana. On 12 December 2025 the President of Botswana Advocate Duma Gideon Boko officiated at the pass‐out parade of Intake No. 1 of 2025 at the Botswana Police College. The ceremony marked the graduation of 873 recruits most of whom were Special Constables. This cohort is the first group to be absorbed into the national police system under the government’s plan. Families’ community leaders and senior police officials attended the event. The atmosphere was one of pride and hope for strengthened public safety. President Boko commended the graduates for their discipline and service readiness.
The pass‐out parade showcased disciplined formations drills and a formal inspection by the President. Graduates wore official police uniforms and stood in precise lines as they received their certificates. Following the parade President Boko moved to commission eight solar street lights along the access roads of the Police College. The lights will provide illumination and improve safety for students staff and visitors. The street lights were donated by the passing out Intake as a gesture of community responsibility. Their decision to fund the lights followed an incident in which one of their colleagues was injured after being struck by a motor vehicle during physical training. That event motivated the group to contribute to safer patrol and training environments.
The solar street lights are mounted along key stretches of the college access roads. They use sustainable energy and will operate without burdening the college’s power supply. College leadership expressed gratitude to the graduates for their initiative and generosity. Students attending the college will benefit from safer movement during early morning and evening hours. The President noted that the donation reflects the character and leadership qualities of the graduating class. He encouraged them to continue contributing to community safety beyond the college.
In his remarks President Boko reaffirmed the government’s priority to strengthen public safety through training recruitment and infrastructure development. He said the integration of Special Constables into the police service will enhance law enforcement presence across the country. He also highlighted the importance of resilience community partnership and innovation. The commissioning of the solar lights was cited as a model of proactive problem solving.
