Africa-Press – Botswana. President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko will undertake a Working Visit to France and Spain from 6th to 11th April 2026, aimed at advancing Botswana’s international partnerships and economic diplomacy. The visit begins in France, where President Boko will participate in the One Health Summit on 7th April, coinciding with World Health Day. The Summit, hosted by the French Government as part of the flagship events of the G7 French Presidency, will gather Heads of State, representatives of international organisations, scientists, private sector leaders, youth, and civil society. Discussions will focus on the interconnected health of humans, animals, plants, and ecosystems, with emphasis on coordinated approaches to shared health threats. The event provides an important platform for Botswana to showcase its policies and strengthen global collaboration on health security.

During the Summit, President Boko will contribute to a High-Level Panel under the theme “Governance, Science and Finance.” His intervention will highlight Botswana’s One Health policy framework, emphasising its role in promoting health security, economic resilience, and sustainable development. President Boko is expected to underscore how the framework supports preparedness against emerging health risks while fostering cross-sector collaboration. The Summit will also offer an opportunity to engage with international experts and leaders on scientific innovation and funding mechanisms for health initiatives. Additionally, President Boko will hold bilateral talks with President Emmanuel Macron of France, focusing on strengthening diplomatic relations and exploring opportunities for trade and investment in Botswana.

Following the engagements in France, President Boko will continue his Working Visit in Spain on 9th April, where he will focus on advancing Botswana’s economic diplomacy agenda. The visit aligns with the country’s national strategy for economic revitalisation and diversification, promoting partnerships that enhance trade and investment. In Spain, President Boko will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón to strengthen cooperation and identify areas for mutual growth. The discussions are expected to cover sectors such as agriculture, technology, infrastructure, and renewable energy, highlighting Botswana’s potential as a reliable partner for international investors. The visit will also provide a platform to engage Spanish business leaders and explore joint ventures that support sustainable development.

President Boko will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister of International Relations, Dr. Phenyo Butale; Minister of Health, Dr. Stephen Modise; Acting Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Dr. Edwin Dikoloti; and senior government officials. This delegation will facilitate engagement across multiple sectors, ensuring that discussions address both health and economic priorities. The presence of sector-specific ministers allows for detailed technical dialogue on ongoing projects, capacity building, and bilateral cooperation initiatives. The visit underscores Botswana’s commitment to multilateral engagement, health security, and economic growth through strategic international partnerships.

The delegation is scheduled to return to Gaborone on 11th April 2026. During this period, Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe will serve as Acting President of the Republic of Botswana.
