Africa-Press – Botswana. Roger Federer, former world number one, said that he intends to return to the professional circuit in 2023, when he is 41 years old, to be fulfilled in August, reported the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola, in this Sunday’s online edition.

The Swiss tennis player has been out of action for almost a year due to a knee operation – since July 2021 and even so he is 50th in the ATP ranking –, but plans to return to the circuit in addition to two fixed points he has this year: the Laver Cup , with Rafael Nadal, at the end of September, and the Basel tournament, which he organizes, at the end of October. “How and when, I don’t know yet, but that’s the idea. I still don’t have plans beyond the Laver Cup and Basel. First I want to be in shape and then choose where to play”, he says in an interview with the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper.

However, he does not skimp on the praise of Rafael Nadal, who has just won Roland Garros for the 14th time:

“It’s incredible. I’m very happy that I did it, I take my hat off. After the tenth time, the eleventh time, I was already thinking ‘it can’t be’, but he continues to raise the bar. It’s huge. Pete’s record Sampras, who I beat, was 14 Grand Slam champions. He’s already 22…”.
