Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) will host the second edition of the Corporate Tennis Tournament at the National Tennis Centre in Gaborone today.
The inaugural edition, held in February, attracted a good number of corporates, with women leaders trading their formal work attire for skirt sa di rough dance to match the spirit of the tennis court.
BTA Vice President, Nonofo Othusitse said preparations for this weekend’s event were progressing well, and expectations were that different corporates would turn up in large numbers.
He explained that the tournament would see various businesses and organisations form teams and compete in a social tennis event modelled after the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup formats. Organisations can register up to six players per team, with participants competing in both singles and doubles events.
Othusitse said the Corporate Tennis Tournament formed part of the BTA’s fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting its programmes and events, which included wheelchair tennis, the junior tennis initiative, and the high-performance programme.
Beyond fundraising, he said the tournament also offered corporates an opportunity to promote employee wellness and team building, while contributing to their Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.
He added that participation would not only foster networking among professionals but also promote physical fitness, as tennis was an excellent cardiovascular workout that enhanced strength and flexibility.
