{"id":10750,"date":"2022-07-22T17:34:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T17:34:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/behind-bokos-last-efforts"},"modified":"2022-07-22T17:54:44","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T17:54:44","slug":"behind-bokos-last-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/behind-bokos-last-efforts","title":{"rendered":"Behind Boko\u2019s Last Efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) President Duma Boko\u2019s last minute quest to save expelled Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Members of Parliament (MPs) was another blow to opposition cooperation after the MPs\u2019 party delegates voted unanimously to expel them at last weekend\u2019s congress.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the just ended BCP conference held in Mahalapye, Boko reportedly initiated a truce to persuade BCP leader Dumelang Saleshando to convince his party to lift the suspension of five MPs and stop their expulsion. However, Boko\u2019s efforts to save the MPs were in vain as the BCP President said he did not have the authority to make the decision alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MPs were duly suspended by the Central Committee and their fate lies in the hands of this committee as well as the National Conference,\u201d Saleshando told the BCP conference ahead of the expulsion.<\/p>\n<p>Sources within the BCP claim that only the Okavango constituency tried to save the area MP Kenny Kapinga who was also part of the MPs facing expulsion. \u201cMajority of the delegates were fed-up.
