Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>After months of speculation, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) today confirmed the appointment of Mogomotsi \u2018Teenage\u2019 Mpote as Zebras coach on a three-year-deal.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mpote has been holding forte on an interim basis but has long been touted as the ideal replacement for Adel Amrouche who left last year July.<\/p>\n

BFA first vice president, Masego Ntshingane told journalists at Lekidi Centre on Tuesday, that there was unanimity in picking Mpote for the position. \u201cMpote is the ideal coach for this post and we believe he is the one that can take the national team to the greater heights than never before and hopefully qualify for the upcoming tournaments,\u201d Ntshingane said.<\/p>\n

He said there is an option to renew the contract which expires in 2025, depending on results. \u201cMpote has a mandate to qualify for the tournaments that are coming, and we expect him to win the COSAFA Cup tournament as he nearly came close to winning it,\u201d Ntshingane added. Mpote who attended his unveiling virtually as he is attending the CAF A license course in Jwaneng, said he was grateful to the opportunity availed by the BFA. \u201cI am so happy to be given this opportunity and I promise that I will work very hard to bring good results for the national team.<\/p>\n

I am also looking forward to work for this beautiful country and I do believe we can achieve the goals that have been set before me,\u201d Mpote said. Mpote said one of his plans is to work on the identity and philosophy of the Zebras.<\/p>\n

BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo the chief executive officer (CEO) said Mpote is expected to take the team to the 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) finals. The target has a 20percent weighting. His second deliverable will be to win the 2024 COSAFA Cup which also carries a 20 percent weight. The other goal is to take the Zebras to the top 30 in Africa, which also carries 20 marks.<\/p>\n

Qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final is the other target, and it carries a 40percent weighting. \u201cThese percentages will help us with the reviews when his tenure ends, and it will help us make an informed decision if we want to renew his contract or not,\u201d Mfolo said.<\/p>\n
