Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana Congress Party (BCP) president Dumelang Saleshando says they intend to table an urgent motion to stop the constitutional review since the proper procedure has not been followed.<\/p>\n

When briefing the media on Monday this week at President Hotel, Saleshando said they are shocked that President Mokgweetsi Masisi had decided to appoint a commission of inquiry into the Constitution without any input from Parliament.<\/p>\n

He said the President could have taken the views or input of Parliament before the commission of inquiry started consulting people.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will talk to Non-Governmental Organisations about this issue and also to foreign embassies about the matter. Parliament’s view or say is necessary and is one of the fundamental processes that is taken into place when the constitutional review is done,\u201d Saleshando said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the BCP president revealed that they will also seek answers on the issue of voter registration by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just want to understand some of the things and maybe the IEC will give us better answers. The BCP supports the decision taken by Umbrella for Democratic Change (to file a lawsuit against the IEC).\u201d<\/p>\n

On other issues, he said the party central committee, which met on Saturday agreed that the annual conference will be held in July 2022 and a constitutional congress will also be held before July.<\/p>\n
