{"id":18655,"date":"2022-12-18T10:16:41","date_gmt":"2022-12-18T10:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/karate-war-lands-in-high-court"},"modified":"2022-12-18T11:34:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-18T11:34:33","slug":"karate-war-lands-in-high-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/karate-war-lands-in-high-court","title":{"rendered":"Karate war lands in High Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>In an unprecedented move, the tension between karate members and Japan Karate Association (JKA) Botswana has reached Lobatse High Court with Justice Matlhogonolo Phuthego granting an order in favour of the federation this morning.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to court papers that were filed yesterday, the applicant in the matter, JKA Botswana World Federation wanted a meeting scheduled for yesterday to be declared \u201cirregular and unlawful\u201d calling upon respondents, Keone Kgorotlhe, Thabang Lesole, and Bikie Gasemotse.<\/p>\n<p>The court granted the order to restrain the respondents from proceeding with yesterday\u2019s meeting. It further called upon the respondents, who were not present in court at the time, to appear on February 9, 2023, \u201cto show cause, if any,\u201d why the order should not be made final in \u201cdirecting that a meeting scheduled for December 17, 2022, by respondents as being irregular and unlawful\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As further stated in the papers, the respondents are instructed to pay the costs of the case.<\/p>\n<p>The tension between the JKA Botswana executive committee and clubs started when the latter proposed a special general assembly.<\/p>\n<p>One of the clubs\u2019 representatives said that all they want is justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wrote a letter to the executive committee and we gave them 14 days to respond but they failed to meet the deadline. As we speak, Botswana has been banned by Japan, which is why black belt grading is done in South Africa. We owe Japan a lot of money but that is not something that our leaders want us to voice out. You complain, you are slapped with a suspension,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>The club representative said five executive committee members resigned and members were not informed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people were co-opted without the consent of the clubs.
