Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>It\u2019s now a year and 10 days since the body of Pitseng Gaoberekwe has been kept at Joyce’s Funeral mortuary as the battle between the deceased’s family and the government continues.<\/b><\/p>\n

Even though the Court of Appeal has ordered the family to bury their father at any place of their choice apart from Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), that has not happened. The judgment has angered the family, and they believe they are oppressed, because of being Basarwa.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the family spokesperson this morning, Smith Moeti said: \u201cWe have not yet buried our father. We are waiting for the response from Attorney General. Our issue is still very clear. As the family, we are not going to be part of the burial that will happen outside CKGR. The government can bury him also at a place of their choice.\u201d The problems of the Gaoberekwe family started when the children of the deceased who were registered under the social welfare programme at New Xade village requested that the body of their father be moved to CKGR, where he had resided for years before he was taken to New Xade due to health conditions.<\/p>\n

The deceased’s children want their father’s burial rites performed at CKGR as per his final wish.<\/p>\n
