Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>A 50-year-old man in Kang has lost P100 000 to Facebook scammers who had promised to deliver a flashy Mercedes Benz to him upon receipt of the cash.<\/b><\/p>\n

The fake car dealers had responded to the victim\u2019s Facebook post about his desire to purchase a new car.<\/p>\n

Sensing an opportunity to make easy money, the scammers under the names TOT Motors responded by posting a picture of the car claiming it was available on stock.<\/p>\n

Convinced that he was dealing with a legitimate business, the victim apparently deposited money into the scammers account on various dates using FNB Western Union.<\/p>\n

When the car which was supposed to be delivered on Christmas Eve did not arrive, and the phone numbers of the company were offline, the victim suspecting that he had been scammed reported the matter to the police.<\/p>\n

The case was officially registered with the Police on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Confirming the case to press, Kang Police Assistant Superintendent Obatleng Mbasa said at first the victim deposited P40 000 on 10th December, and another P40 000 a few days later.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was later asked to deposit the last P20 000 for clearance, which he did,\u201d said Mbasa.<\/p>\n

The concerned top cop advised people to stop buying through social media to avoid being cheated by strangers.<\/p>\n
