Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Lerala have been assured that the long awaited Lerala Primary hospital project will commence in the 2023\/2024 financial year.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing a kgotla meeting on January 9, Lerala\/Maunatlala MP, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele informed residents that a state-of-the-art Level One primary hospital would be constructed under government’s new Transitional National Development Plan.<\/p>\n

He said the project, which had an estimated budget of P250 million, would see P100 million being spent during the 2023\/2024 financial year while the remaining P150million would be expended during the 2024\/2025 financial year.<\/p>\n

Upon completion, Mr Modukanele said, the 70-bed facility would alleviate issues such as patients travelling long distances to access health services in Palapye and Serowe among others.<\/p>\n

Another development under the Transitional National Development Plan, the legislator said, would be the construction of an advanced police post with seven staff houses and more officers in Lerala.<\/p>\n

“This will also help curb the high rate of delinquency in the village,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Modukanele also informed his constituents that a decision had been taken to reconstruct the Palapye-Martin’s Drift road, which he said had long reached its life span.<\/p>\n

The Martin’s Drift bridge, the MP said, would also be upgraded to two lane, a development that would improve economic activities in the area.<\/p>\n

Mr Modukanele said government, would ensure all projects undertaken through the Transitional National Development Plan were delivered on time and within budget.<\/p>\n

A resident, Mr Andrew Supang commended government for having finally heeded Batswapong’s request for a hospital.<\/p>\n

He said the hospital would not only address health issues, but would also boost the economy of Lerala.<\/p>\n

Another resident, Mr Gababothale Jeremiah appealed for a bigger post office in the village.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on other matters, the Lerala\/Maunatlala MP expressed that following the recent development to upgrade some of the sub-districts to full districts, he would like to see Lerala be made a sub-district, given its population.<\/p>\n

He noted that Lerala was currently the administrative centre for the constituency and the most populated village in the whole of Tswapong.<\/p>\n

The MP also addressed a kgotla meeting at Majwaneng, where he encouraged residents to form trusts to generate income for the community.<\/p>\n

He said Tswapong was rich in natural resources that could be utilised for tourism activities, hence formation of trust would be ideal.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, residents of Majwaneng appealed for an upgrade of their clinic to include a maternity ward.<\/p>\n

They decried long distances travelled to access maternity services in areas such as Palapye and Maunatlala.<\/p>\n

Residents also wanted the gravel road, which is the shortest route that connected Majwaneng and Lerala to be done as it was currently in a bad state.<\/p>\n
