{"id":19860,"date":"2023-01-14T09:04:49","date_gmt":"2023-01-14T09:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/motsumi-icon-of-selfless-leadership"},"modified":"2023-01-14T10:53:57","modified_gmt":"2023-01-14T10:53:57","slug":"motsumi-icon-of-selfless-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/motsumi-icon-of-selfless-leadership","title":{"rendered":"MOTSUMI ICON OF SELFLESS LEADERSHIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Former South East Member of Parliament, Cabinet minister and envoy to India, Ms Lesego Motsumi, has been described her as an embodiment of peace.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a memorial service to honour and celebrate Motsumi\u2019s life on Jan 12, Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) women\u2019s wing chairperson, Ms Peggy Serame said \u201cMs Motsumi was known for her signature smile that brought peace and calmness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that Motsumi was a strong-willed person in areas of women in politics and elsewhere, something she said ensured that women voices in politics were heard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is because of women like her that women are now progressing in politics. You can imagine back then in 1999, when Ms Motsumi started politics, it was tough as a woman, but she contributed in easing things for us,\u201d she said adding, that the women in politics were grateful to her.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Serame therefore thanked Ms Motsumi\u2019s family for having allowed their daughter to serve the nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thank you for giving your daughter to service the nation. For that reason she paved the way for women not only in politics but as well to show that women were able through the different positions she held in life, where she demonstrated excellence, integrity and honour,\u201d said Ms Serame.<\/p>\n<p>Different speakers at the memorial service described Ms Motsumi as a selfless person who had dedicated herself to serving the country with diligence.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Motsumi was also described as versatile, a mother to everyone, a woman who served selflessly, not only in politics but to the national as whole.<\/p>\n<p>Representative of former Members of Parliament Committee, Ms Tebelelo Seretse said Ms Motsumi was an icon, an iron lady who worked hard in all respects and a pillar of strength that paved way for women to be active in politics.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Seretse described Ms Motsumi as a pillar of strength in different areas, saying she was a straight forward person who did not mince words when she did not like something, adding \u201cshe was hardworking at the same time being trustworthy, well liked and respected by people around her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Motsumi, 67, passed on January 9 after a short illness and will be buried tomorrow in Ramotswa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\">Botswana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana.
