Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Economic Inclusion Act was formulated with the aim to promote economic empowerment of targeted citizens.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing a kgotla meeting at Bontleng on Tuesday, Gaborone South MP, Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu said the development was prompted by the high levels of unemployment experienced across the country, adding that government alone could not provide jobs.<\/p>\n

Mr Mthimkhulu who is the Assistant Minister for State President had earlier briefed his audience about putting them first in terms of benefitting from the constituency fund awarded to his area.<\/p>\n

He said all procurement and community projects which had been budgeted for during the next financial year would be awarded to youth companies in his constituency.<\/p>\n

Mr Mthimkhulu highlighted that this time the P10 million fund would go towards maintaining and developing road infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Regarding shortage of medicines, MP Mthimkhulu quoted the Minister of Health, Dr Edwin Dikoloti\u2019s recent remarks during a media briefing that the situation was stabilising and all should be back to normal soon.<\/p>\n

He added that government had put in place initiatives that would help address the situation which included among others disbursing funds to respective DHMTs across the nation to make in-house procurement of all medicines they ran short of.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Bontleng VDC chairperson, Mr John Macheng urged the area MP to assist them in refurbishing the community hall, saying private partnership in renovating and maintaining the hall could be a solution.<\/p>\n

Mr Macheng added that when in good condition, the facility could also help the community in hosting recreational and sporting activities, something he dubbed paramount in addressing youth drug abuse.<\/p>\n

He said it was worrisome that his community remained a hotspot for crime and drugs. He therefore he urged members of the community to work closely with the police in addressing all issues pertaining to drugs.<\/p>\n

On the issue of litter picking, he asked that the frequency be increased to ensure the area is kept clean always.<\/p>\n

He said informed the MP that illegal dumping of litter on streets was still a challenge, something he urged the community to desist from.<\/p>\n
