Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Shortage of drugs in health care facilities across the country is blameable on insufficient supply not lack of funds.<\/b><\/p>\n

MP for Boteti East and assistant health minister Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe explained in Letlhakane Monday that manufacturers suspended dug production due to COVID-19 and that limited supply.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a kgotla meeting at the village\u2019s Buuhe Ward, he said India, Canada and South Africa had agreed to supply Botswana with drugs.<\/p>\n

The assistant minister was responding to one of the residents, Mr Banyatsi Salutu, who had complained about shortage of drugs in government hospitals.<\/p>\n

Mr Salutu had wanted to know why government had failed to procure drugs.<\/p>\n

On another health-related issue, Mr Lelatisitswe informed his audience that Letlhakane Primary Hospital was undergoing major maintenance work and advised residents to use clinics.<\/p>\n

He also informed them that government suspended imports of uniforms so that international companies operating locally could support local firms.<\/p>\n

Mr Lelatisitswe advised young people to await plot allocation in their parental homes instead of occupying land illegally.<\/p>\n

This was in response to Mr Kagiso Gaseitsewe\u2019s complaint that the land board was taking long to allocate land which had led to large numbers squatters.<\/p>\n

Mr Lelatisitswe implored parents to encourage children to attend school and to report cases of defilement.<\/p>\n

The Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Shadrack Teseletso had requested an update on the hospital project, saying Letlhakane Primary Hospital was too small for the population of Letlhakane.<\/p>\n

The area councilor, Mr Ntebogang Kgosi called for expansion of Tawana Clinic in Letlhakane and requested land servicing.<\/p>\n

He expressed concern that the portion of Letlhakane-Francistown Road through the village centre did lacked bus-stops and speed humps which led to high rates of accidents.<\/p>\n

Letlhakane Land Board chairperson, Mr Ketshabamang Kethanyegile said plots would be allocated at Buuhe on January 24.<\/p>\n
