Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Botswana Football Association (BFA) is happy with the growth of women football in the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview, BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo, said this was due to a strategy that emphasised perception change, structural administration, coaching and capacity building as well as grassroots and players\u2019 development.<\/p>\n

He said BFA had invited FIFA to train women football administrators in December, adding there were two grassroots centres in Tsabong and Shakawe.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us it is an investment. Remember the Mares had qualified for WAFCON and as BFA we are saying 10 to 12 years from now we should talk about appearing at bigger international stages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mfolo said he was confident that BFA was on the right track in its efforts to grow women football.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he said this year focus would also be on coach training, adding that going into the 2023\/24 season, all women football coaches should have a minimum qualification of CAF C licence.<\/p>\n

He said they would also organise a goalkeeper training course, specifically for those involved in women football since that area needed attention.<\/p>\n

He said they delayed start of women football league this year so as to increase the girl-child mass participation.<\/p>\n

He said BFA opened for women\u2019s team registration to December 31 without any charge, adding teams had increased from 66 to 102.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we are currently running with the logistics to start the league before end of January,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

After the league, they would host the DTCB Top 8 championship, and ultimately send a team to the zonal championship league.<\/p>\n
