Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>It is clear that the Bangwato tribe in Serowe are not at peace that their kgosikgolo who is also former president Ian Khama has self-exiled.<\/b><\/p>\n

Khama escaped the country late last year after he felt he was being harassed by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS), as they kept on searching his properties and implicating him in different offences.<\/p>\n

Even if the State has not yet charged or arrested him, Khama felt that his life was in imminent danger. Recently, the Bangwato demanded answers from Khama\u2019s uncles to brief them (tribe) on what is happening to their chief and why the DIS keeps on slapping their chief with search warrants almost every month.<\/p>\n

However, this forced a delegation from the tribe to meet with the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kgotla Autlwetse.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Autlwetse held a highly successful consultative meeting with a delegation from Serowe comprising Borangwanaagwe Kgosi Khama this morning (January 27, 2022) to prepare for a meeting between them and President Masisi. This follows a request from Kgosi Khama to have an audience with the President,\u201d stated a press release dated January 27, 2022.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the other concerned members feel that the delegation should keep on giving them feedback on the issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis issue is between Masisi and Khama. Therefore, it is very important that the delegation hears everything from Masisi. We have to know what has happened between the two if indeed Khama is involved in corruption and whether there is evidence or not. It is time we know the truth from both parties,\u201d a source said.<\/p>\n

The source added they do not want a situation whereby the delegation ends up making or taking resolutions before they could inform the tribe about the issue.<\/p>\n

Another source said they fear that some of the elders might end up being compromised by the State looking at how things are unfolding.<\/p>\n

\u201cKana batho ba kgona go kgatlhiwa ke go nwa di tea ka di biscuits babo ba lebala gore re ba rumile eng. Kana batho bao ga ba ikela,\u201d said a concerned source.<\/p>\n

However, Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane turned cagey saying: \u201cThis issue is internal and we are yet to meet President Masisi. There is nothing that I can share with the media.\u201d<\/p>\n
