Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appealed to Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members to be loyal to their party and to support those elected into structures.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing North West region BDP members in Maun on Friday, President Masisi said some members violated the party principles by disrespecting others within the organisation.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs your party President I will never sacrifice principles of the BDP and allow a representative to use whatever power they have to abuse voters,\u201d he said, criticising those who used their financial strength to gain power.<\/p>\n

President Masisi pledged to continue leading the BDP with utmost respect and commitment.<\/p>\n

He said there was potential that the BDP could become a powerhouse in the region, adding that he hoped one of the recommendations of the delimitation commission would be to add another constituency in the North West District.<\/p>\n

He advised party members to start campaign for next year\u2019s elections in a wise manner and to explain the benefits of joining the BDP to potential members.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to win Maun West, Maun East, Okavango and Chobe constituencies which is why we have intensified our campaign drive in these areas,\u201d he said, adding that they would ensure that the lives of people in the region were changed by bringing infrastructural developments.<\/p>\n

He noted that the Maun-Nata and Sehithwa-Nokaneng roads were in the pipeline and that the Gumare-Mohembo road maintenance had commenced.<\/p>\n

Vice President and BDP chairperson, Mr Slumber Tsogwane appealed to members to be united and to avoid divisions that could breed conflict.<\/p>\n

He appealed to all to accept party primary election results because they were meant to strengthen democracy and not to cause divisions.<\/p>\n

Mr Tsogwane said BDP members should know their party\u2019s constitution and structures in order to know the proper channels of dealing with issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to strengthen our structures even more and we can only achieve this when we work together as one hence I encourage you to desist from tactics that are aimed at destroying our party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he urged all BDP members to be good ambassadors of the party and to defend the party.<\/p>\n
