Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Myths about COVID-19 vaccines have prevented some members of the public from taking up the inoculation while some stopped after taking the first or second jab.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speculations have been abound concerning the vaccines with some believing they were not exactly what they were portrayed to be.<\/p>\n

It was against this backdrop that Francistown West Member of Parliament, Mr Ignatius Moswaane commended those who took the vaccine especially those who went all the way and took the booster shot.<\/p>\n

Mr Moswaane, who was addressing a kgotla meeing in Tatitown, said while some vaccines were donations from other countries, it should be realised that money was spent to secure them.<\/p>\n

Mr Moswaane also talked about shortage of medicines in hospitals and clinics saying it had negatively affected lives.<\/p>\n

He said expressed concern that some businesses were in the hand of foreigners citing as examples hardware stores, retail industry, clothing, motor dealers, furniture, electronics, cellular phones.<\/p>\n

\u201cBatswana cannot live better when they do not control the economy,\u201d said Mr Moswaana adding that Batswana should not be relegated to Ipelegeng.<\/p>\n

Earlier on, Tatitown Customary Court president, Kgosi Chemalebo Montshiwa stated that Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases declined last year following a workshop that was conducted in her area.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Montshiwa said cohabitation was a concern and complicated matters when such partners separated.<\/p>\n

She said it was difficult to divide property among unmarried partners when they went their separate ways.<\/p>\n

Botsalano Ward Development Committee chairperson, Ms Gertrude Morima complained about leaking drains and pipes, non-functioning street lights and difficulties faced by elders when it was time for them to get their pensions, partly because the system was not user friendly or money not available.<\/p>\n

In Bluetown Ward Development chairperson, Ms Martha Kgamanyane said construction of a pre-school in their area was stalling.<\/p>\n

She also complained about worn out Water Utilities Corporation pipes.<\/p>\n

In response, MP Moswaane stated that the service levy paid by the community should be used to improve services rendered by government.<\/p>\n
