Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Shorobe Primary School is celebrating after being gifted 10 new Apple laptops by Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation.<\/b><\/p>\n

Handing over the laptops to the school recently, Elephant Havens co-founder and director, Mr Boago Poloko said the gadgets, which they had received from their friends in the United States of America, were expected to ease learning and also catapult Shorobe Primary School to academic excellence.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the world has transformed to digitisation, learning has evolved over the years having adopted the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools. We want to see your academic performance improve and reach greater height as a school because you are the future leaders of this country,\u201d Mr Poloko said.<\/p>\n

However, he expressed concern about the difficulty they experienced in efforts to get the gadgets to Botswana.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to call the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to liaise with the Ministry of Trade to facilitate the process of receiving donations from international funders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For his part, the schoolhead, Mr Lentswetse Bofedile, said enrolment continued to expand every year, having had 401 pupils last year, a number which had since increased to 429 this year.<\/p>\n

Mr Bofedile also lamented the school\u2019s academic results which he said were below par, after registering a 43 per cent and 46 per cent rate in the 2021 and 2022 Primary school Leaving Examinations (PSLE) respectively.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Mr Bofedile said they were hopeful that the laptops would contribute immensely in improving the school\u2019s performance and results.<\/p>\n

\u201cDigitisation is imperative in modern day because the world is going towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) where every person is expected to have access to technology.<\/p>\n

This donation is in alignment with government\u2019s goals of providing gadgets to every learner currently rolled out in secondary schools countrywide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He therefore thanked Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation for the gesture and promised that the school would work hard to make all their donors proud.<\/p>\n

Acting education secretary in the North West District Council, Mr Moganetsi Montsho said ICT was an important component in learning hence the laptops would contribute a lot in education.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a council we appreciate every gesture from donors that is aimed towards education. Government alone cannot deliver effective education without the support of other stakeholders,\u201d said Mr Montsho.<\/p>\n

Situated about 45 kilometres from Maun in Ghabamocha settlement, Elephant Havens is a habitat for orphaned young elephants that were rescued from the brutality they suffered in the wild.<\/p>\n
