Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs through Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) is currently optimising and improving the Tutume District water supply scheme by addressing deficiencies.<\/b><\/p>\n

Assistant Minister of Local Government, Ms Talita Monnakgotla said once the assessment and remedial works were completed, water challenges in the villages would be alleviated.<\/p>\n

\u201cAreas which require upgrading have been identified and the corporation is procuring the required equipment to optimise the scheme,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She also said whilst the scheme was being optimised, the villages were currently supplied with potable water from the Maitengwe wellfield whose design yield was 3.29MLD against the current demand of 4.11MLD.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe deficit has been exacerbated by pipe blockages emanating from borehole saline water from the wellfield and the blockages are attended as and when they occur,\u201d said Ms Monnakgotla, adding that the plan was for the villages to benefit from the conjunctive use of both Ntimbale Dam supply and Maitengwe boreholes.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Rebagamang Rancholo wanted to know if the minister was aware of water shortage at Tutume, Senete, Nkange, Changate, Dagwi and Maitengwe.<\/p>\n

He also asked when the mentioned villages would be supplied with water.<\/p>\n
