Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Trade and Industry recently raided some shops that sell imported uniforms in Letlhakane. <\/b><\/p>\n

The operation charged 19 shops for selling such uniform.<\/p>\n

A total of 1 331 uniforms were confiscated.<\/p>\n

The raid followed implementation of the Statutory Instrument No 76 of 2021, which restricted importation of school uniforms.<\/p>\n

The ministry\u2019s spokesperson, Mr Tshepiso Kgarubane, said Welvaart Trade had 122 assorted coloured school tracksuits and a Chinese female was charged P200 for violation of control of goods, prices and other charges contrary to section 47:02 of the trade act.<\/p>\n

The owner of Shalshang Shop, which had 63 sets of black and white tracksuits, was charged P200.<\/p>\n

Ackermans store was also charged P200 for failing to comply with the Statutory Instrument No 76 of 2021 as it was found with a total of 92 white boys and girls school shirts.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the store was also charged for selling cellular phones, without a cellphone trading licence, so was Cellphone Warehouse, which was charged P200; Jet stores was also found in possession of 1 043 school uniforms including shirts, trousers and skirts, but the items were only recorded for reference.<\/p>\n
