Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Transport and Public Works Ministry employees have been beseeched to work as a team and lead by example in delivery of quality infrastructure.<\/b><\/p>\n

Addressing a two-day retreat for the ministry executive committee, directors, parastatal CEOs and board chairpersons affiliated to the ministry on Wednesday, Minister Eric Molale cautioned against silo mentality as it was divisive and created inefficient organisations.<\/p>\n

Mr Molale said as the custodian of major infrastructure projects, the ministry should be people centred and develop infrastructure standards, central to quality projects delivery.<\/p>\n

He cited quality infrastructure, safety measures and high performance culture as three main tenets that they should adopt.<\/p>\n

\u201cInfrastructure provided should be safe for people to use and you should always bear in mind the primary purpose of providing infrastructure, which is to connect people and communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Molale spoke against lack of building control codes, saying it bred substandard infrastructure. He also warned against using material that goes against safety codes as it led to poor workmanship.<\/p>\n

He advised the participants to have harmonised policies, proper communication plan and to embrace innovation and research. The minister urged them to develop a systems thinking mindset and forge strategic partnerships, stressing that capacity building should be an integral part of their ministry.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Mr Molale advised officers to ensure successful implementation of the Transitional National Development Plan projects, warning that truancy would not be tolerated during the course of its delivery.<\/p>\n

\u201cI encourage you to have catalyst project teams, supervise contractors and report timely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The two-day retreat was meant to discuss ministry activities, issues that impede progress as well as to set strategic vision and develop the ministry\u2019s performance plan among others.<\/p>\n
