Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Construction of the Tsabong Airstrip has been delayed as it has not been budgeted for in the past National Development Plans (NDP), Minister of Transport and Public Works Mr Eric Molale has said.<\/b><\/p>\n

When responding to a question from specially elected member of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi, Kgosi Charles Hendricks during the just-ended session, Mr Molale said the Tsabong Airstrip project was submitted for implementation during NDP10, but was suspended due to budget constraints. He said it was then proposed to be included in the NDP11, but also did not get funding due to other competing needs.<\/p>\n

Mr Molale noted that the ministry would consider inclusion of the project in NDP12 and that aviation services in Tsabong would continue to be provided at the current Tsabong Airfield.<\/p>\n

He said the airstrip was one of those that were earmarked for relocation together with Ghanzi and Hukuntsi ones, as the airfields were currently situated in the centre of the villages, which hindered developments and service reticulation.<\/p>\n

Mr Molale further said the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana had acquired land in Tsabong for the relocation of the airstrip.<\/p>\n

Kgosi Hendricks had asked the minister to explain the cause of delay in the construction of Tsabong airstrip.<\/p>\n
