Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The women’s softball team started its World Cup campaign on a positive footing after walloping Lesotho 24-0 in a one-sided contest at the National Diamond this morning.<\/b><\/p>\n

Botswana did the damage to their opponents in the first inning, claiming a 19-0 lead. The side continued with a good run in the second inning scoring five points without any response from the lightweights.<\/p>\n

Five players from the 16 women squad, Molethe Bonolo, Isaac Charity, Bafedile Dube, Sixpence Gotlamang and Kedibonye Mogatusi represented Botswana in the Europe Africa Olympic Qualifier 2019 in Utrecht, the Netherlands, helping Botswana to seventh place finish.<\/p>\n

Mogautsi was Botswana\u2019s everyday shortstop at the WBSC U19 Women\u2019s Softball World Cup 2019. Speaking after the game, coach Phibion Tawina said a win is a win but the standard of play from Lesotho was very low. \u201cThey did not give a challenge that we expected from them.<\/p>\n

That is why we struggle when we go forward in this competition. Our opponents in the continent besides South Africa, do not give us competition. We are not able to pick our weaknesses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added even during the match, Lesotho was not showing any indication of fighting back. He said the team would now wait for their match against South Africa this afternoon.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreparations are over and the only thing I can do is to motivate the players. I will make some changes, the plan is to rotate the players in order to avoid burnout. Besides that, we are ready for South Africa,\u201d he said. Before the Botswana versus South Africa game, there will be the opening ceremony for the WBSC Africa qualifiers.<\/p>\n

The fourth team in the competition is Kenya. Two teams will progress to the next stage of the qualifiers to be held in Europe later this year.<\/p>\n
