Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi yesterday visited the family of the late Dr Karl Seligmann in Tlokweng to offer his condolences.<\/b><\/p>\n

Dr Seligmann, a renowned medical specialist, died on January 25 and was buried over the weekend. President Masisi said Dr Seligmann was selfless and had devoted all his energy to serving Batswana.<\/p>\n

\u201cI come here on behalf of Batswana to say be comforted.<\/p>\n

The whole country envelopes you with love,\u201d said Dr Masisi.<\/p>\n

He said Dr Seligmann was a man of a Godly heart and integrity, who pioneered the country\u2019s health infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not only get the best medical care, but we got the best attention, love and care.<\/p>\n

He was ever gentle and an enigmatic figure,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

President Masisi said he was pleased to pay homage to a great figure such as the late Dr Seligmann, adding that his name would go down the echelons of history and in that he would be remembered in naming some buildings.<\/p>\n

Dr Seligmann\u2019s wife and caretaker, Sonita said the family was humbled by President Masisi\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n

She said her late husband enjoyed his work and never really retired, as he continued private practice way in his retirement age.<\/p>\n

Ms Seligmann said her husband never stopped serving God either, adding that he was involved in many community projects including serving in the committee charged with the establishment of the UB medical school.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to continue his work, he served the people of this country.<\/p>\n

He prayed for the leadership of this country day and night,\u201d said Ms Seligmann.<\/p>\n

Born April 23, 1929 in Eastern Cape South Africa, Dr Seligmann came to Botswana in the early 1950s as a Christian missionary. He was a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology and tropical medicine.<\/p>\n
