Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>The Central South Regional Football Association (CSRFA) has been applauded for launching a women\u2019s league, an initiative viewed as a move in the right direction.<\/b><\/p>\n

The CSRFA women\u2019s league was launched on Saturday in Mahalapye.<\/p>\n

Officiating at the event, former Shoshong MP, Dikgang Makgalemele, commended CSRFA for launching the women\u2019s league.<\/p>\n

The first round of the league will run from February 11 to March 25, with the second round expected to commence on May 25.<\/p>\n

Makgalemele said the initiative would also help unearth young women\u2019s talent.<\/p>\n

He also applauded women for breaking the stereotype that football was a men sport.<\/p>\n

Makgalemele women football players to remain committed to the game as it could help improve their health and well-being.<\/p>\n

He also appealed to the business community to support football development agenda through sponsorship.<\/p>\n

Central South Women Football representative, Tsaone Motsamai, said the launch marked beginning of the first ever women’s football league since the existence of the CSRFA.<\/p>\n

Motsamai said the initiative would mentor, coach and empower women in sport and guide the girl to adapt to positive behaviour and grow into responsible citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cSport instills discipline and one can also make a living through it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

She said the region covered teams in the Shoshong, Mahalapye constituencies and part of the Tswapong area.<\/p>\n

Motsamai said seven women teams had registered to partake in the maiden league being Cats, Tiki Taka, Rolling Guys, Santa Green, Mafia Vision Ladies, Tshikinyega Tigers and Taj City.<\/p>\n

The FIFA Connect Programme helped member associations to register their stakeholders in a systematic way and keep track of players, coaches and referees wherever they were in the world.<\/p>\n

Councillor for Kalamare ward, Moagiemang Mpho, has encouraged the football players to take the sport seriously and remain committed to make their region proud.<\/p>\n

He said it took discipline for one to excel in sport.<\/p>\n
