{"id":22178,"date":"2023-02-16T07:38:03","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T07:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/btc-warns-public-of-scammers"},"modified":"2023-02-16T08:39:12","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T08:39:12","slug":"btc-warns-public-of-scammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\/all-news\/btc-warns-public-of-scammers","title":{"rendered":"BTC WARNS PUBLIC OF SCAMMERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Batswana have been urged not to give out their personal details to scammers who pretend to be employees of Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) under the pretext that they have won a competition.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This warning was aired during a BTC recharge to win competition launch at Rail Park Mall on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsorship and events manager at BTC, Mr Mosarwa Molema said the scammers were patient and used loopholes in their conversation with the victims to gain their trust before stealing their money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe already have many cases of customers who have been tricked by these scammers.<\/p>\n<p>Our customers need to know that our company can never ask them to give their details, but the operator would rather tell the customer their details as a way of verifying,\u201d said Mr Molema.<\/p>\n<p>He said the objective of BTC competitions was to give back to the community and to change the lives of ordinary Batswana and subsequently the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>A representative of Ernst and Young Botswana, Ms Motshabi Kediegile said in order to confirm the fairness of the competition, BTC had engaged them alongside IT experts who checked to validate contestants.<\/p>\n<p>They also confirmed the attendance of selected candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were present when the draw was done and the procedures were in accordance to set standards.<\/p>\n<p>A random selection process was used and that means all customers have a chance to win,\u201d said Ms Kediegile.<\/p>\n<p>One of the winners, Ms Elizah Seramane appreciated the prize, saying it would help her to finish her project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very thankful,\u201d said Ms Seramane.<\/p>\n<p>Another winner, Ms Dorcus Gaboitsewe also thanked BTC for the prize money, saying it would help her to finish building their screen wall.<\/p>\n<p>All BTC customers still stand a chance to win by recharging with P100 or more and dialing *180# to enter the competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/botswana\">Botswana<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Botswana.
