Africa-Press – Botswana. <\/strong><\/span>Renewed commitment towards community projects and poverty eradication projects will transform rural economies and significantly contribute to employment creation. <\/b><\/p>\n

Assistant Minister of local Government and Rural Development, Ms Talita Monnakgotla said this during a kgotla meeting in Grootlagtle recently.<\/p>\n

Ms Monnakgotla who expressed concern over the collapse of community projects and poverty eradication projects, challenged residents to embrace and exploit community projects and poverty eradication projects for sustainable economic growth and employment creation.<\/p>\n

She further challenged youth and women to exploit programmes and projects tailor made for them.<\/p>\n

Ms Monnakgotla called on government employees to ensure that projects reached their full potential because they could be recession-resistant if given the necessary attention.<\/p>\n

She urged Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) and Citizen Entrepreneurial development Agency (CEDA) to work hand in hand with council to establish viable and profitable community projects. Ms Monnakgotla said the Citizen Economic Inclusion Act and new Procurement Act presented better prospects to the local communities.<\/p>\n

Responding to a concern regarding pupil drop out at Grootlagte Primary School, the assistant minister stated that such could be addressed by inculcating a culture of learning among children at an early stage by sending them to preschools.<\/p>\n

She said though normally primary school learners left school because they missed their parent\u2019s love, preschool education would help because once they developed a culture of learning especially early on, it would not be easy for them to leave school.<\/p>\n

She therefore, said they would have conversation with farm owners to request them to establish a preschool.<\/p>\n

Earlier, residents stated that pupils dropped out of school, to join their parents employed in the farms.<\/p>\n

They suggested that developing a boarding could be the answer to the problem.<\/p>\n
